General Information[]
The 76-mm divisional gun M1942 (ZiS-3) (Russian: 76-мм дивизионная пушка обр. 1942 г. (ЗиС-3)) is a Soviet 76.2 mm divisional field gun developed during World War II. ZiS was a factory designation and stood for Zavod imeni Stalina ("factory named after Stalin"), the honorific title of Artillery Factory No. 92, which first constructed this gun.

Variants[]
The ZIS-3 field gun is the first of its kind to be added to the game. It is a weapon emplacement, with up to two being able to be constructed within Irregular Militia Forces FOBs. It will have fragmentation, HEAT, and smoke ammunition types available so will be effective against both infantry and vehicles at long range but be cautious as prolonged use will sap a FOB of ammunition supply.
The ZIS-3 will best be employed in ambush positions, covering choke points or used in positions with long lines of sight where the threat of return fire will reduce the likelihood of quickly incapacitating the operator. This weapon is a relic of world war 2 and as such its HEAT ammunition lacks the armor penetration capabilities of modern weapons (only 120mm of armor penetration) but will still need to be taken advantage of in order to offset the Irregular Militia Forces’ lack of conventional heavy vehicles.
Gameplay[]
- The ZiS-3 is a towed field gun. It cannot be towed or pushed around in-game, however.
- The ZiS-3 can be placed 2 per FOB as emplacements.
- This is one extra compared to one BGM-71 TOW, HJ-8 or 9M133 Kornet ATGMs of conventional armies.
- You need to reload the ZiS-3 after each shot.
- The ZiS-3 has access to 3 types of rounds; HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) rounds, Fragmentation rounds, and Smoke rounds.
- HEAT rounds are effective against vehicles; Fragmentation rounds are more effective against infantry; Smoke rounds can blind and mark enemy positions.
- ZiS-3 HEAT has a very high base damage similar to guided missiles at 1900, despite being classified as Light HEAT. However, the penetration value is merely 120 mm, the lowest value of any anti-tank weapon, due to its antiquated warheads.
- ZiS-3 Fragmentation has a very large blast radius of 16 meters, giving it a devasting lethal radius of 10.5 meters.
- ZiS-3 HEAT and Fragmentation have the same splash damage, maximum damage radius, and minimum damage radius. However, the damage drop-off rate is quicker on the HEAT round.
- ZiS-3 HEAT splash damage ignores walls and geometries within a 1-meter radius.
- Armour calculation involves many factors that are not limited to simple base damage and penetration. The slope of the armor, its thickness, the angle of hit, all of that matter when the game engine decides if damage has been dealt to the target. Examine the vehicle armor models on Jensen's Range to learn where your shots will do damage.
