The UH-1H and UH-1Y Venom are helicopters in Squad. Available to the United States Marine Corps after update V3.0: Amphibious Assault and being famous for its Close Air Support (CAS) variant. The UH-1H is the Turkish Land Forces variant.
General information[]
The UH-1Y, is manufactured by Bell Helicopter as part of the H-1 upgrade program for the United States Marine Corps. It is a twin-engine, medium lift, utility helicopter based off the UH-1N and first entered service in 2008. Part of the H-1 upgrade program included the modernization and upgrade of both Attack Helicopters and Utility Helicopters.
The UH-1Y weighs only 11,840 lb (3,371 kg), is 58 ft (17 m) long, 48 ft (14 m) wide (rotorspan), and 14 ft (4 m) tall. Its top speed is 189 mph (304 kph).
Gameplay and Variants[]
- The UH-1Y posses a flight model that is most similar to the CH-146, with an increased pitch, yaw and roll rate compared to aircraft like the UH-60M. In addition, the UH-1Y's weight to power ratio makes handling feel significantly more "floaty." These aspects combined make for one of the most maneuverable aircraft in Squad.
- The UH-1Y has reduced passenger and supply carry capacity. With only 900 supply points between construction and ammo, the UH-1Y is beat only by the Canadian Army's CH-146 (which has 800 supply points) for minimal Utility Helicopters supply point carrying capacity.
- Like the CH-146 and the Z-8J, the UH-1Y also has a scout camera, able to rotate 360° for the co-pilot's position. It allows for impressive long range reconnaissance from the air.
- With these elements the UH-1Y is better suited for initial, quick, FOBs and then assisting the team with reconnaissance with the help of a co-pilot and the scout camera. Particularly helpful is communicating with ground based armor squads and providing them with the location of enemy armor, such as Main Battle Tanks.
- The UH-1Y is armed with two M240Hs for the door gunners with five 200-round boxes.

UH-1Y CAS[]
Weapon | Model | Caliber | Basic Load | Rounds |
---|---|---|---|---|
Main Armament | M261 Rocket Pod | 70 mm | Hydra 70 High Explosive Rockets | 19x2 |
Starboard Door Gun | GAU-21 | 12.7 mm | ~2100x1 | |
Port Door Gun | GAU-17 "Minigun" | 7.62 mm | ~3500x1 |
The CAS variant of the UH-1Y has the same flight characteristics as the standard UH-1Y but some notable differences. Most obviously, it is armed heavily with dumb fire rockets fired by the pilot and two impressive weapon mounts for door gunners. However, of note is that this CAS variant cannot carry any construction supplies, making it exclusively an Attack Helicopter.
The door gun mounts posses an impressive degree of arc, approximately 80°, allowing for gunners to shoot almost directly forward and backwards. Allowing not only for more angles to engage ground targets, but also to engage fleeing or chasing enemy aircraft.
This variant is no longer in the game after being accidentally added in update V3.3 and subsequently removed in update V3.4
UH-1H[]
Turkish Land Forces variant with 900 supply points capacity and two MG3 for the doorgunners.
Trivia[]
- The UH-1Y was the first helicopter in Squad to feature a scout camera for the co-pilot.
- The UH-1Y CAS was added to the game by accident in update v3.3 and removed very shortly after, but nonetheless holds the title of the first attack helicopter in Squad.
- When originally introduced to the game it was possible for door gunners kill themselves by "outrunning" their own bullets while shooting forward.
