~ In-game description |
The Rifleman (Fighter for the Insurgents faction) is one of the Direct Combat roles available in Squad. Each faction has its own version, equipped with a standard weapon common to its army. The rifleman is unique because it is the only kit equipped with an Ammo Bag.
Description[]
The Rifleman kit is intended to give all-purpose support to a squad. The Rifleman is the backbone of any squad and is generally the most effective anti-infantry role in head-on engagements. New players should play as the rifleman role to learn the basics of Squad game-play before moving on to more advanced roles.
Each faction's rifleman has multiple kit load-outs to choose from. Certain kits require a minimum number of squad members and a limited number of certain kits can be claimed by a single squad. See each faction's respective Wiki page for more information on kit restrictions as well as the Kit Role Selection page.
Rifleman kits include the most optics of any role. Unconventional Factions are also given extra weapon choices. They are also unique in that multiple rifleman can take the same kit, allowing for many squad members to have high-powered optics/weapons. Some Irregular Militia kits have deployable sandbags as well.
The Rifleman can resupply themselves and their fellow soldiers on the field with their ammo bag by using Left Click to place it on the ground. Anyone on the team can press F to open a menu to rearm ammo, explosives, bandages and other consumables. Each bag has 100 ammo points and is still affected by persistent ammo, meaning dying does not refill it.
Loadout[]
- Assault Rifle, Carbine, Battle Rifle or Sniper Rifle
- 0-1 Pistols, Knife
- 1-2 Frag/HE Grenades
- 2 Smoke Grenades
- 2 Field Dressings
- Entrenching Tool, Ammo Bag, 0-1 Field Binoculars, 0-1 Sandbags
Unconventional factions receive a pistol. Kits with powerful optics are limited by squad size. Insurgents have access to an ironsight Mosin sniper which is also limited. Kits with irons/unmagnified optics have field binoculars and a bonus grenade to compensate. Irregular Militia ironsight non-battle rifle kits are given sandbags.
Gameplay[]
- Riflemen should buddy up with another member of the squad, such as a Heavy Anti-Tank to provide them cover and rearm them with the Ammo Bag.
- Remember that the Ammo Bag needs to be resupplied at an Ammo Crate or Main Base.
- A rifleman is effective at ranges up to 300 meters.
- Every squad should have at least 2 to 3 rifleman in order to be an effective fighting force and resupply.
