QJY-88 is a general purpose machine gun designed to replace the aging Type 67 machine gun for service in the People's Liberation Army and is manufactured by Norinco.
The QJY88 has a long reload time as a belt-fed machine gun.
Can only be fired on fully-automatic.
The QJY88 is fitted with a deployable bipod.
Every 4th round is a tracer round.
The sights for the YMA88 is the YMA95 (4×) telescopic sight only.
The YMA95 (4×) telescopic optic allows the user to see enemies from long distances easily and engage enemies at longer ranges without the need to zero the weapon. This is a Bullet Drop Compensation scope designed with pre-determined hold-over marks.
The QJY88 has a unique damage model but shares its ballistic performance with the FN MAG. The latter has a higher rate of fire.
The 652 rounds per minute rate of fire is below average for an automatic weapon.
Compared to the prevalent Soviet PKM, the QJY88 has lower damage, the same rate of fire, and better muzzle velocity.
The QJY88 is classified in-game as the Medium Machine Guns. Medium Machine Guns have extremely uncontrollable sway, inadequate point fire responsiveness, and excessive recoil. Sway and recoil can be significantly reduced via prone or bipod.
Unlike other Medium Machin Guns, QJY88 outputs suppression effects akin to Light Machine Guns.
Firing the weapon with the bipod deployed is always preferred, creating a highly stable and accurate fire support platform. If the bipod cannot be used, firing the gun from the prone position is the next best option.
Firing in short bursts will increase the overall accuracy. It will also conserve ammunition.
The QJY88 will not hurt hostile armored vehicles, but it can be used effectively against Technicals, Transports, or Logistics Trucks to kill or wound the occupants. It will also destroy Motorcycles.
History
The QJY88 or Type 88 General Purpose Machine Gun (Chinese: 88式通用机枪) is a 5.8x42mm light machine gun designed in the late 1980s by Norinco for the People’s Liberation Army. It was intended to replace the obsolete Type 67 machine gun in service. The QJY88 was designed to chamber intermediate cartridges used on QBZ95-1 due to PLA's universal compatibility doctrine at the time.
Trivia
QJY stands for "Light weapon - Machine Gun - General Purpose" in the Chinese military designation system.
QJY88 is very different from its real-life counterparts. In real life, the weapon has a rate of fire at 700RPM (depicted correctly in the weapon description), a 200-round belt box, and uses 5.8×42mm intermediate rifle cartridges. However, it only has 650 RPM in the game, is equipped with a 100-round belt, and has a damage profile similar to MMG with full-power cartridges.
