The QJC88 is a heavy machine gun (HMG) featured in Squad, introduced in the version 4.0 as part of the Red Star Rising update for the People’s Liberation Army.

General Information[]

The QJC88 or Type 88 Vehicle-Mounted Machine Gun (Chinese: 88式车载机枪) is a gas-operated heavy machine gun designed by Norinco for People’s Liberation Army. It fires the 12.7×108mm round. QJC88 was once called the W-85 machine gun, competing with the similarly named Type 85 heavy machine gun for the lightweight heavy machine gun bidding. In trials, the W-85 lost out to the Type 85 and was not accepted into PLA service. Type 85 would later be refined into even lighter QJZ89.

Although the W-85 in its original tripod configuration was not accepted into Chinese service, years later, a new variant was adopted called the QJC88. The QJC88 was introduced as a pintle-mounted machine gun for tanks and armored vehicles. It weighs the same, is solenoid fired, and is mounted on a special cradle allowing for elevation angles of -5 to +65°. A remote weapon station based on QJC88 was developed in the late 2000s.

Gameplay[]

  • Can be fired only on automatic.
  • A QJC88 ammunition belt can hold 450 rounds.
  • Currently, all QJC88 in-game are mounted on a remote weapons station fitted with a rangefinder, stabilizer, traverse indicator, and digital ammo counter. It also has multi-stage zooms with ranging marks and bullet drop prediction indicators.
    • QJC88 RWS does not have smoke discharges like that of M2 CROWS and Kord RWS.
  • The effective range of the QJC88 is 1.8 kilometers.
  • The firepower of this 12.7x108mm machine gun should not be underestimated, as those bullets penetrate all current in-game armored vehicles and dispose groups of enemy personnel with relative ease.
    • 12.7x108mm can penetrate every type of in-game vehicle except M2A3 and main battle tanks.
    • It can also penetrate thinner walls, meaning that you can neutralize shielded or covered enemy infantry.
    • It can also penetrate the bulletproof windshields of other light vehicles, killing infantry inside directly.
  • Armour calculation involves many factors that are not limited to simple base damage and penetration. The slope of the armor, its thickness, the angle of hit, all of that matter when the game engine decides if damage has been dealt to the target.
    • Prioritizing areas such as flat armor angles, turret, and rear areas, which are less effective against the 12.7x108mm.
  • Firing in short bursts is extremely effective in long-range engagements. The vehicle-mounted machine guns also overheat if the trigger is held down for too long, so firing in short bursts also lengthens the total firing time of the weapon.
  • Like all heavy machine guns, it features a long reload time. Conservation of ammunition will prove helpful to last through your ammunition belt instead of burning through it so that you do not have to reload at the wrong time.
  • QJC88 shares its damage model, penetration, and ballistic performance with QJZ89.
    • QJC88 also shares its damage model and penetration with NSV and Kord. However, it has a slightly lower muzzle velocity at 850 m/s.
    • The fire rate of 700 RPM is higher than that of the M2A1 (500 RPM) and DShK-M (600 RPM), allowing the gunner to more liberally spray targets. However, the machine gun will overheat with sustained fire.
