~ In-game description |
The PF98 is an anti-tank weapon featured in Squad, introduced in the version 4.0 as part of the Red Star Rising update for the People’s Liberation Army.
General Information[]
The PF98 or Type 98 Anti-Tank Rocket Launcher (Chinese: 98式反坦克火箭筒) is a 120mm unguided anti-tank rocket system developed by Norinco for the People's Liberation Army as a successor to the older Type 65 and Type 78 recoilless guns. It is also known by its nickname, "Queen Bee". It can be equipped with a firing control system that predicts the future aiming point based on the calculations of range, rocket type, and target speed.

Gameplay[]
- The PF98 is a reusable, smoothbore anti-tank launcher.
- The PF98 generates a back blast that can injure or kill anybody standing nearby behind the weapon when it's being fired.
- The arming distance for all Heavy Anti-Tank rocket launchers is 20 meters. This was standardized in Version 7.0.[3]
- Prior to Patch 6.0.1, the minimum arming range for the PF98 depends on the warhead. The Tandem HEAT has an arming distance of 37.2m, while the Multipurpose High-Explosive Incendiary is at 26.4m.
- If you are too close to your target, the rocket will not detonate or deal any damage.
- As in reality, The PF98 is fitted with a laser rangefinder. You should use it for accurate distance measurement to guarantee a hit.
- With proper aiming, the weapon can hit stationary targets beyond 1,000 meters.
- However, as the rangefinder display is outside the eyepiece, you cannot check the rangefinder readings while aiming down the sight.
- The PF98 Multipurpose High-Explosive Incendiary round combines traditional HEAT with Fragmentation, which means it can engage both vehicles and infantry with its 400mm penetration and a large blast radius.
- As of 4.0, Multipurpose HE-I has the largest blast radius for any anti-tank launcher in-game, at 20 meters.
- Multipurpose HE-I ammo costs more than other HEAT rounds for HAT launchers, at 50.
- The PF98 is the slowest handheld rocket launcher in-game to ready, reload and switch out. Players need to be aware of their surroundings during the engagement.
- The PF98 Tandem shares its damage model with most Heavy Anti-Tank launchers in the game, with 1400 base damage, 200 splash damage, and 900mm penetration.
- The PF98 Tandem has one of the fastest projectiles in the game at 310m/s.
- When you reload your ammunition from an ammo crate, your launcher is not automatically ready to fire the next time you switch to it. You must switch to the launcher, finish the animation of discarding the old cartridge, and then arm the new one.
- Armour calculation involves many factors that are not limited to simple base damage and penetration. The slope of the armor, its thickness, the angle of hit, all of that matter when the game engine decides if damage has been dealt to the target. Examine the vehicle armor models on Jensen's Range to learn where your shots will do damage.
Reticle[]
The PF98 features a 4× optical sight comparable to that of RPG-7V2. This Y/MK/PF-98(Y)-120 scope features:
- A stadiametric rangefinder for 3.0 meter-tall targets on top, though it’s not as useful as the laser rangefinder;
- A horizontal grading;
- A center round circle marking the zero (and where the rangefinder would point to);
- Drop-compensation hold-over lines for tandem (left) and dual-purpose (right) ammo, marked by hundred meters and indicate in Chinese and English;
- A funnel-type stadiametric rangefinder that operates by width inherited from the PF89.
Trivia[]
- Introduced in update 4.0, the PF98 is the first infantry weapon in the game with a laser rangefinder. Previously, only vehicle optics had such functions.
- In real life, the PF98 fire control unit can perform leading calculations and put light spots inside the scope as reticles to assist accurate aiming. This is not featured in Squad.
- In the game, the Tandem HEAT is ranged to 1500 meters with higher muzzle velocity, while HE-I is ranged to 800m. This is reversed from the real-world specifications, where HE-I has a longer range at 1500m with higher muzzle velocity, whereas Tandem HEAT is rated at 800 meters.
