~ In-game description |
The Marksman is one of the Fire Support roles available for players to use in Squad. The Marksman is usually armed with semi-automatic marksman rifles. The British Armed Forces have an extra type of Marksman kit, while Canadian Army and Russian Airborne Forces have no marksman kit.
Description[]
The primary objective of the marksman is to provide long-range direct fire support for the squad. The secondary objective of the marksman is to conduct scouting operations in tactical vantage points against the enemy. It generally receives a strong optic, powerful caliber and bipod to assist with this. This role is strongly recommended to be used in large, open maps with little cover or urban maps with tall buildings. It is strongly discouraged to use the marksman in close quarters combat. Marksman generally use the same caliber and thus have similar ballistics and damage to their faction's Machine Gunner role.
Loadout[]
- DMR or Assault Rifle
- Pistol, Knife
- 0-1 Frag Grenades
- 2 Smoke Grenades
- 2 Field Dressings
- Field Binoculars, Entrenching Tool
Unconventional factions and the British Armed Forces Squad kit receive one frag grenade. Conventional factions receive a bipod on their primary.
Gameplay[]
- Surprise attacks are a must when using this role; use the opportunity to your advantage at all times.
- Using cover while on the move is also very important. Without it, you will be spotted and eliminated.
- Shoot and scoot tactics should be taken into consideration. Staying in one spot during an engagement for too long will eventually lead to your death.
- Always make sure you have a safe spot to retreat to in case your engagement backfires.
- Marksman rifles usually have smaller magazine sizes than regular rifles. Be sure to keep a close eye on your ammunition; you do not want to engage the enemy with an empty magazine.
- Always stay close to your squad; fighting alone will guarantee no victory against a force larger than you.
- Make sure you always have the high ground; this will secure a better chance to victory in any engagement.
- Keeping clear communication between you and your squad leader is very important and will prove very helpful.
- This role is often a bait role, meaning Squad Leaders will kick you from their squad upon choosing it, often automatically believing that whoever selects this role is not proficient enough at it, instead of simply asking how proficient that player is at that role. You have demonstrated a lack of knowledge or care about choosing a role more beneficial to your Squad. Choose this role at your own risk.
- Do not bite more than you can chew; think twice before you make a move.
- You are the eyes and ears of your squad (and possibly others), your awareness as a marksman is crucial to the survival of your teammates.
- British Armed Forces have two marksman roles, with the first variant using L86A2 LSW automatic rifle and the second variant using L129A1 Sharpshooter Rifle.
- First variant is the only Direct Combat marksman kit in-game, making it less restrictive compared to other marksman kits.
- Canadian Army and Russian Airborne Forces’s marksman roles are replaced by the Sniper kit. The Sniper kit belongs to the Specialist role type, with more strict limitations on team-wide numbers.
- Insurgents have an additional Sniper kit alongside the Marksman kit. Similar to the Canadian one, it also belongs to the Specialist role type.
