The M2A1 Browning Machine Gun is a heavy machine gun (HMG) available in Squad. It is used by the Australian Army, British Army, Canadian Army, U.S. Army, United States Marine Corps and Turkish Land Forces.

General Information[]

The M2A1 Browning Machine Gun is a short-recoil, closed-bolt operated HMG. The M2A1 Browning is the modern variant of the M2 Browning machine gun, designed by John M. Browning in 1918. The M2 Browning machine gun was later adopted by the United States Army (U.S. Army) in 1933 and has been used extensively in almost every war the United States was involved in.

The M2A1 was designed by General Dynamics in 2007 and was adopted by the U.S. Army in 2010 as the standard HMG. It is also used as the standard HMG for the British Army under the designation L111A1.

The M2A1 adopts many features from its parent, such as the M3 tripod, 1,143 mm (45.0 in) barrel, iron sights, and handles. However, unlike the M2, the M2A1 incorporates improvements such as a quick change barrel (QCB) with a removable carrying handle, a new slotted flash suppressor that reduces muzzle flash by 95 percent, fixed headspace and timing, a modified bolt, and a manual trigger block safety. Like its parent, the M2A1 uses 12.7x99mm (.50 BMG) cartridges.

Gameplay[]

  • Can be fired only on automatic.
  • A M2A1 ammunition belt can hold 100 rounds as emplacements.
    • On vehicle M2A1 ammunition belt can hold 400 rounds.
  • The emplaced M2A1 comes with an ACOG scope with ranging marks.
    • Unlike the Russian NSV, it does not come with a stadiametric rangefinder. But accurate ranging and sustained fire can be delivered easier due to the presence of range marks on the scope.
  • The emplaced M2A1 comes with a low-profile tripod, which could be protected behind one layer of sandbags.
    • The tripod allows M2A1 to pivot thirty-eight degrees left and right from where it was placed. It has a five-degrees of depression and five degrees of elevation.
  • The vehicle-mounted M2A1 has two variants: Open-top and RWS:
    • M2A1 Open-top variant is protected by armor plates that protect the gunner from small arms fire. It provides 360 degree protection but limits the situational awareness.
    • M2A1 CROWs comes with a zoom and rangefinder function. Gunners should use this to their advantage for suppressing and taking down infantry at long range or dealing rapid damage to lightly armored vehicles.
  • The effective range of the M2A1 is 1.83 kilometers.
  • The firepower of this .50 caliber machine gun should not be underestimated, as those bullets can penetrate most current in-game armored vehicles and neutralize groups of enemy personnel with relative ease.
    • Only M2A3 and main battle tanks armor cannot be penetrated.
    • It can also penetrate thinner walls, meaning that you can neutralize shielded or covered enemy infantry.
    • It can also penetrate the bulletproof windshields of other light vehicles, killing infantry inside directly.
  • Armour calculation involves many factors that are not limited to simple base damage and penetration. The slope of the armor, its thickness, the angle of hit, all of that matter when the game engine decides if damage has been dealt to the target.
    • Prioritizing areas such as flat armor angles, turret, and rear areas, which are less effective against the .50 Cal.
  • Firing in short bursts is extremely effective in long-range engagements. The vehicle-mounted machine guns also overheat if the trigger is held down for too long, so firing in short bursts also lengthens the total firing time of the weapon.
  • Like all heavy machine guns, it features a long reload time. Conservation of ammunition will prove helpful to last through your ammunition belt instead of burning through it so that you do not have to reload at the wrong time.
  • M2A1 is the slowest firing heavy machine gun in-game, though it also has a slightly longer range and faster muzzle velocity than its counterparts.
    • Slower rate of fire allows the M2A1 to shoot continuously for extended period of time without overheating.
    • M2A1 shares its penetration values with the rest of the heavy machine guns in-game, except for the vehicle-exclusive KPVT.
