Gameplay
- The L85A2 box magazine holds 30 rounds.
- Can be fired on automatic and semi-automatic.
- When the L85A2 is equipped by a Squad Leader, every 4th round is a tracer round.
- Some variants of the L85A2 are fitted with Foregrip Bipod, allowing the weapon to rest stably on surfaces.
- The sights for the L85A2 are the carrying handle iron sight, SUSAT (4×), LDS (4×), and ACOG (4×) optical sight.
- The carry handle iron sights allow the user to zero the rifle for different ranges (from 100m to 300m).
- The SUSAT (4×), LDS (4×), and ACOG (4×) are all magnified optics, allowing the user to see enemies from long distances quickly and engage enemies at longer ranges without the need to zero the weapon.
- The SUSAT features an older-styled obelisk reticle, which blocks more peripheral vision than LDS. The zeroing of the SUSAT can be adjusted from 100 meters to 600 meters, further enhancing its long-range precision.
- LDS and ACOG feature a modern and clear MIL-style article and do not allow zeroing.
- L85A2 shares its damage model and ballistic performance with L22A2 and L86A2 LSW.
- The rate of fire at 652 rounds per minute rate is below average for an automatic weapon but makes the gun more controllable in close and medium range.
- L85A2 and L86A2 LSW have slightly higher damage among all other small caliber rifles, at 64 damage.
- L85A2 and QBZ95-1 both have a slightly higher accuracy than other assault rifles at 2 MOA. They also have one of the fastest muzzle velocities among light weapons at 940 m/s.
- L85A2 is classified in-game as Bullpup. Bullpups offer better moving sway control and pointing responsiveness in handling at the expense of slightly higher recoil.
- They output regular suppression effects and are effective at all ranges.
History
The L85A2 is a gas-operated, rotating bolt, magazine-fed assault rifle. The L85A2 started out as the SA80, which was designed in the 1970s and 1980s. The SA80 was then adopted by the British Armed Forces as the standard service rifle in 1985, replacing the L1A1, the British variant of the FN FAL. The L85 was widely criticized for its poor quality and design deficiencies. The German company Heckler & Koch (H&K), owned by British BAE Systems at the time, was contacted to make an improved version of the L85A1. The result was the L85A2, created in 2000. The L85A2 was more successful and saw service in the British Armed Forces as of today.
Trivia
- The L in "L85A2" stands for Land Service, 85 is the model number, A stands for Mark, and 2 stands for the type of Mark, usually to distinguish itself as modified by German designer and manufacturer H&K.
