The L22A2 rifle is the carbine variant to the current British Army service rifle, introduced in 2004 for use by vehicle crew and auxiliary forces. Its bullpup design allows for an extremely short overall length while retaining a full length rifle barrel. This makes the carbine the perfect weapon for close quarter situations and cramped vehicle interiors.
~ In-game description

Gameplay

  • L22A2 magazine holds 30 rounds.
  • Can be fired on automatic and semi-automatic.
  • When the L22A2 is equipped by Lead Crewman or Lead Pilot, every 4th round is a tracer round.
  • Some variants of the L22A2 are fitted with Foregrip Bipod, allowing the weapon to rest stably on surfaces.
  • The sights for the L22A2 are the carrying handle iron sight and SUSAT (4×).
    • The carry handle sight allows the user to zero the rifle for different ranges (from 100m to 200m).
    • The SUSAT (4×) is a magnified optic, allowing the user to see enemies from long distances quickly and engage enemies at longer ranges without the need to zero the weapon. The SUSAT features an older-styled obelisk reticle. The zeroing of the SUSAT can be adjusted from 100 meters to 600 meters, further enhancing its long-range precision.
  • L22A2 shares its damage model and ballistic performance with L85A2.
    • The 652 rounds per minute rate of fire is below average for an assault rifle but makes the gun more controllable in close and medium range.
    • L22A2, like L85A2 and QBZ95-1, has a slightly higher accuracy than other rifles at 2 MOA. They also have one of the fastest muzzle velocities among light weapons at 940 m/s.
  • L22A2 is classified in-game as Bullpup. Bullpups offer better moving sway control and pointing responsiveness in handling at the expense of slightly higher recoil.
    • They output regular suppression effects and are effective at all ranges.

History

The L22 is a carbine variant of the L85 rifle. It was issued to tank and armored vehicle crews for emergency action out of the vehicle. L22A2 fixed many deficiencies associated with the original L85/L22 design.

Trivia

  • The L in "L22A2" stands for Land Service, 22 is the model number, A stands for Mark, and 2 stands for the type of Mark, usually to distinguish itself as developed by German designer and manufacturer H&K.
