The L129A1 sharpshooter rifle is a 7.62x51mm NATO designated marksman rifle in current use by the British Army. It has a mounted 6x scope with a bullet drop compensator going out to 1200m, and features an illuminated chevron reticle. Its rugged and modern design gives British sections the much needed reach in terms of individual firepower.
The ACOG (6×) allows the user to see enemies from long distances easily and engage enemies at longer ranges without the need to zero the weapon.
The L129A1 shares its damage model and ballistic performance with M110 SASS and HK417, but with much quicker reload speed.
They have one of the slowest muzzle velocities in its class, at 783 m/s.
L129A1 is classified in-game as the Designated Marksman Rifle. Marksman Rifles have handling characteristics similar to Battle Rifles. Compared to their rifle counterparts, they have more sway, slightly lower point fire responsiveness, and excessive recoil.
They output suppression effects akin to Light Machine Guns and are effective at medium to longer ranges.
History
The L129A1 was designed by Lewis Machine and Tool Company. It entered service into the British Armed Forces in 2009, and as of December 2014, three thousand units have been delivered. It weighs four and a half kilograms. The effective firing range is eight hundred meters. It is typically issued with a Trijicon ACOG 6X48 telescope sight and an additional close-combat Docter red dot above it.
