Gameplay

  • The HK416 magazine holds 30 rounds.
  • The Availablity of fire modes depends on the variant.
    • The M27 IAR Can be fired on automatic and semi-automatic.
    • The M38 DMR can be fired only on semi-automatic.
  • Every 4th round of the M27 IAR is a tracer round when used by automatic rifleman roles. All other roles do not receive tracers currently have tracers
  • All Automatic Rifleman and Marksman variants of HK416 are fitted with a bipod. All other roles do not receive a bipod
  • The sights for the HK416 are the flip-up iron sight, SDO (3.5×) optical sight, and the telescopic sight (6-10×).
    • The flip-up iron sight allows the user to zero the rifle for different ranges (from 100m to 600m).
    • The SDO (3.5×) allows the user to see enemies from long distances easily and engage enemies at longer ranges without the need to zero the weapon.
    • The Telescopic sight (6-10×) allows the user to see enemies from long distances easily and engage enemies at longer ranges without the need to zero the weapon. The variable zoom function allows for increased versatility in target acquisition across different ranges. The zeroing of the Telescopic can be adjusted from 100 meters to 1000 meters, further enhancing its long-range precision.
  • The HK416 is a well-balanced weapon with adequate damage, effective range, and bullet dispersion performance.
  • The HK416 largely shares its damage model with M16A4 and M4A1.
    • It has a slightly higher muzzle velocity at 915 m/s.
    • The 833 rounds per minute rate of fire sits above average for most automatic weapons. It can output serious firepower in close-quarter combat.
  • The M27 IAR is classified in-game as the Automatic Rifle. Automatic Rifle combines the handling characteristics of Rifles and Light Machine Guns. They have relatively higher sway and hip-fire recoil.
    • They output LMG level suppression effects, are relatively easy to point fire, and are effective at medium to long ranges.
  • The M38 DMR is classified in-game as the Designated Marksman Rifle. In this case, M38 DMR shares its handling characteristics with M27 IAR.
  • The M27 IAR will not hurt hostile armored vehicles, but it can be used effectively against Technicals, Transports, or Logistics Trucks to kill or wound the occupants. It will also destroy Motorcycles.

History

The Heckler & Koch HK416 is a gas-operated assault rifle chambered for the 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge. It is designed and manufactured by the German company Heckler & Koch. The M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) is based on the HK416. It is used by the United States Marine Corps (USMC). It replaced the M249 in USMC service in 2011 and (since 2017) is intended to be issued to all infantry riflemen as well as automatic riflemen. The M38 designated marksman rifle (M38 DMR) is an M27 fitted with a Leupold TS-30A2 Mark 4 MR/T 2.5-8x36mm variable power scope (VCOG), the same optic fitted on the Mk 12 Special Purpose Rifle. The USMC announced in 2020 that it plans to fit the VCOG (1x8-28mm) and the QDSS supressor to every rifleman, effectively removing the difference between a M38 and a M27.

Trivia

  • In Squad, the M38 DMR is limited to semi-auto fire despite being the same HK416 rifle as the M27 IAR. In real-life, the M38 is essentially an M27 with a long-range rifle scope.
  • As of version 8.1, the WPMC "HK416" uses the M27 model. The text "M27" is visible on the magazine well.
