The AS Val is an integrally suppressed 9×39mm subsonic rifle. It was developed to replace a variety of older, special purpose rifles equipped with detachable silencers that were typically used for covert or special operations. Although originally kept with Spetznaz special forces, over time the rifle was issued to more conventional units' reconnaissance elements. Typically this weapon is used on reconnaissance patrols in order to silently eliminate enemies during chance encounters at very close distances, or to silently eliminate sentries preceding an assault on a fortified objective.
~ In-game description

The AS-VAL is a short rifle featured in Squad.

Gameplay

  • The AS-VAL magazine holds 20 rounds. The magazine-load can effectively be loaded to 21 rounds when reloading the rifle with a full magazine attached, giving the player one extra bullet in the rifle-chamber and thus slightly increasing the chance of taking out several enemies at once.
  • Can be fired on automatic or semi-automatic.
  • The AS-VAL is suppressed with much more reduced muzzle flash, gunfire sound, and bullet shockwaves.
  • The sights for the AS-VAL is the OKP-7 reflex sight.
    • The OKP-7 reflex sight allows a relatively clear sight picture for close-range combat, but it doesn't allow zeroing, limiting long-range effectiveness.
  • AS-VAL has a unique damage model and ballistic performance different from all other weapons in-game.
    • Its damage, 60, is compatible with most Short Rifle and Carbines, but the effective range curve is comparable to pistols.
    • The 652 rounds per minute rate of fire is below average for an automatic weapon but makes the gun more controllable in close and medium range.
  • The AS-VAL is classified in-game as the Short Rifle. Short rifles and Carbines are well-balanced in handling.
    • The AS-VAL has much lower ADS recoil than other small-caliber Short Rifles.
    • They output regular suppression effects and are relatively easy to point fire.

History

AS Val is a Soviet-designed assault rifle featuring an integral suppressor based on the prototype RG-036 completed in 1981 by TsNIITochMash.
