Gameplay

  • The AKMS magazine holds 30 rounds.
  • Can be fired on automatic and semi-automatic.
  • The sights for the AKMS include iron sights only.
    • The iron sight allows the user to zero the rifle for different ranges (from 100-800m).
  • The AKMS and AKM have the same damage model and ballistic performance.
    • The 599 rounds per minute rate of fire is one the lowest end for an automatic weapon.
    • It also shares its damage model with RPD but with a much lower fire rate at 600 RPM and a slightly higher accuracy at 4 MOA.
    • Compared to other small caliber rifles, 7.62×39mm rifles have higher close-range damage but a shorter effective range.
  • AKMS is classified in-game as Short Rifle. Short rifles and Carbines are well-balanced in handling.
    • Compared to smaller caliber Short Rifles, 7.62×39mm rifles have slightly more moving sway and ADS sway, and marginally higher randomized hip fire recoil. But their overall point firing responsiveness and ADS recoil are the same.
    • They also output more suppression effects akin to Light Machine Guns.
  • The KLT that is used by the MEA is an Iranian copy of the AKMS

History

The AKMS is a long-stroke piston operated, rotating bolt assault rifle. The AKMS is a folding stock variant of Kalashnikov's AKM assault rifle. The AKMS has an under-folding metal shoulder stock, a slant-cut muzzle brake, a modified trigger assembly, improved iron sights, and a new gas block. Like its parent, the AKM, the AKMS uses 7.62x39 mm cartridges.

Trivia

  • The AKMS stands for Avtomat Kalashnikova Modernizirovanniy Skladnoy (Автомат Калашникова Модернизированный Складной) which means in English from Russian, "Kalashnikov automatic rifle, modernized, folding."
  • During the alpha, the weapon was referred to as an "AKM-S."
