The A-10A Warthog is an Close Air Support vehicle in Squad. It is available to the US Army, the Canadian Army and the British Armed Forces.

Gameplay[ | ]

The Thunderbolt II is available to the commander as a fire support option. When activated, the aircraft will perform a strafing run with its 30mm GAU-8/A Avenger cannon, striking an area in a straight line approximately 30 meters long.

The strike can be heard coming shortly before it occurs, and the distinctive sound of the main gun will echo across the surrounding area, following behind the strike itself.

If enemy anti-aircraft fire lands a direct hit, the aircraft will be destroyed followed by a voice line that only the commander can hear.

A female pilot voice will come over the radio to the commander right after the attempted airstrike has been destroyed and mentions "breaking off due to air threat".

With that being said, mountainous terrain or urban cityscapes can result in air strikes that miss the target, sometimes by a significant margin.

Tactics[ | ]

The air strike is best used against stationary targets such as enemy FOBs, HABs, or defensive strongpoints where there are large concentrations of infantry.

Note the delay between the call-in and the actual strike itself, as it is inadvisable to attempt striking crewed combat vehicles. The reason is because the vehicles will most likely move before they get hit. The narrow strafing run is not as destructive as the artillery barrage options, and has a shorter cooldown. As with all commander functions, you must be standing near a friendly HAB to use it.
