The 9M14 Malyutka or HJ-73C is an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) featured in Squad.
General information[]
The 9M14 Malyutka (Russian: Малютка; "Little one", NATO reporting name: AT-3 Sagger) is a manual command to line of sight (MCLOS) wire-guided anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) system developed in the Soviet Union. It was one of the most widely produced ATGMs and was manufactured under license by China as the HJ-73 (Chinese: 红箭-73, lit. 'Red Arrow-73'). The in-game versions are the Malyutka-P and HJ-73C; both are semi-automatic command-to-line-of-sight (SACLOS) ATGMs improved from the original design.

Variants[]
- Malyutka and its derivatives are mounted on various vehicles in the game.
- The 9M14P Malyutka-P in the game is the vehicle-mounted anti-tank guided missile of the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle. It is available to the Middle Eastern Alliance, Irregular Militia Forces, and Insurgents.
- The HJ-73C is mounted on ZBD05 and ZBL08's HJ-73C variant, available to the People’s Liberation Army and PLA Navy Marine Corps.
Gameplay[]
- The only difference between 9M14P and HJ-73C is the fire rate. Due to the launcher differences between Soviet and Chinese designs, HJ-73C launches at a much faster rate of 9 missiles per minute, while 9M14P has a considerably longer reload time at five missiles per minute.
- 9M14P and HJ-73C are wire-guided, semi-automatic command to line of sight (SACLOS) ATGMs, which utilize optical gunsight to designate targets while controlling the missile trajectory through a thin metal wire. When leaving the launcher, the missile will fly in an erratic motion and gradually stabilize itself to the center of the optics.
- Wire-guided ATGMs have an easier time hitting moving targets than beam-riding missiles.
- Wire-guided ATGMs are less accurate at longer ranges.
- Terrain and obstacles can foul the wire, and they cannot fire on the move, which leads to wire snap.
- Firing multiple missiles in a quick session, making them airborne simultaneously, will cause the previous few missiles to lose track and fly aimlessly.
- This is especially worth bearing in mind when using the ZBL08 HJ-73C, where the player can dumb-fire two missiles in quick succession.
- SACLOS guidance is vulnerable to disruptions caused by IR Smoke Countermeasures, regardless of the missile being Wire-Guided and Beam-Riding.
- Hitting moving targets such as helicopters is difficult but not impossible. Remember that whilst you can move the reticle very quickly, the missile requires time to "catch-up" with whatever you are aiming at. Many shots at moving vehicles are missed as a result of the operator not accounting for the fact that the missile itself is already out and moving.
- Make sure to lead your ritcles before firing.
- Armour calculation involves many factors that are not limited to simple base damage and penetration. The slope of the armor, its thickness, the angle of hit, all of that matter when the game engine decides if damage has been dealt to the target. Examine the vehicle armor models on Jensen's Range to learn where your shots will do damage.
- Prioritizing areas such as flat armor angles, turret, tracks, engine compartments, ammo racks, and rear areas where you could disable enemy mobility and effectively penetrate through armor and deal damage.
- The 9M14P Malyutka largely shares its damage model and penetration with 9M113 Konkurs, 9M117 Bastion, and 9M119M Refleks. They all have 153 splash damage and 500 mm penetration. 9M117 Bastion and 9M119M Refleks have higher base damage at 3000, whereas 9M14P Malyutka and 9M113 Konkurs are at 1800.
- They all have marginal differences in range, muzzle velocity, and missile acceleration speed. 9M14P Malyutka (HJ-73C) has the slowest velocity and acceleration in the class, whereas 9M113 Konkurs, 9M117 Bastion (APS03), and 9M119M Refleks (APS201) have relatively higher muzzle velocity.
- Compared to deployable anti-tank missiles, such as BGM-71 TOW, 9M133 Kornet, and HJ-8, 9M14P Malyutka has the same 1800 base damage but has much weaker penetration and slower velocity.
